Madly in Love and Madonna's Pig on Chicago big screen
Two Flemish films have been selected for the 15th EU Film Festival in Chicago: Hilde Van Mieghem’s Madly in Love and Frank Van Passel’s Madonna’s Pig. The EU Film Festival is held annually and aims to give Chicago's cinema-going public a taste of European cinema.
Madly in Love has competed in competitions at numerous international festivals, winning prestigious awards along the way, including the LA Femme International Film Festival’s Best Foreign Film Award and the Best Film Award at California's Broad Humor Film Festival. In Europe the film toured Hamburg, Funchal (Portugal) and Bergen (Norway) among others. The producers also confirmed remake plans for the film in both The Netherlands and the US.
LA head over heals with Madly in Love
Hilde Van Mieghem’s romantic comedy Madly in Love whisked away the Best Foreign Film Award at the LA Femme International Film Festival in Los Angeles (13-16 Oct). Set up six years ago, the LA fest provides female cinematographers with an equal chance at building their carreers. For Madly in Love it was the second kudo in LA in as many weeks.
According to local media, there ‘is an honesty to all of the film’s characters that seems impossible and is yet so desirable. Madly in Love is a commentary on human relationships and just how complicated they can become boxed in a house of hilarity.’ The film is performing well in the US with screenings in Palm Springs, New Port Beach, Indianapolis and New Hampshire and a recent Award at the Broad Humor Film Festival (Best Feature Film) also in California. In Europe the film toured Hamburg, Funchal (Portugal) and Bergen (Norway) amongst others. The producers also confirmed remake plans for the film in both The Netherlands and the US.
Hamburg fest head over heels for Madly In Love
Hilde Van Mieghem’s romantic comedy Madly in Love has been selected for competition at this year’s Hamburg International Film Festival (Filmfest Hamburg, 29 September-8 October). The film will be shown as part of the fest’s Eurovisuell competition which selects the most interesting and successful European audience films.
Madly in Love has already been seen at a number of mainly US fests including Palm Springs, Newport Beach and Indianapolis. The film also recently received the red carpet treatment in Los Angeles as part of a Belgian film cycle: ‘Grit and Whimsy: The Best of Recent Belgian Cinema’, organised by the American Cinemathèque in collaboration with the Consulate General of Belgium. Meanwhile there are also plans for a Dutch remake of the film.
