Dans ces mêmes contes de fées, on raconte qu’il n’y a qu’un moyen de pourfendre le dragon qui retient les princesses en captivité : mettre la main sur l’épée invincible! Pour parvenir à ses fins, notre héros est prêt à aller loin. Peut-être même jusqu'à 850 mètres...

Flanders shorts well represented in Psarokokalo line-up

Nine short films from Flanders take part in the international competition of the International Short Film Festival Psarokokalo in Athens, Greece. Six live-action shorts, two animation films and one documentary project made the line-up. The eighth edition of the festival runs from 10 till 16 July and presents some 120 shorts, selected out of 4,200 submissions.

Vol au ventLeonardo Van Dijl’s black-and-white short Get Ripped exposes the mental deterioration of a young man determined to transform his body. In its home territory, the film already screened at the Leuven International Short Film Festival, while it has also been confirmed for Outfest LA, which kicks off on July 10. The film is to take part in the fest’s International Male section.

850 Meters going strong on the festival scene

Joeri Christiaen’s animated short film 850 Meters has recently captured the hearts of audiences at the Mundos Digitales International Animation Festival in Coruña, Spain (4 – 9 July) and was awarded the fest’s Audience Award, making it the film’s first international award. The film is set to tour various other festivals including Brazil and Rio de Janeiro.

850 MetersThe 11th edition of Mundos Digitales took place in Coruña this year while the festival’s main subject focused on 3D Animation, Visual Effects, Videogames and Architectural Visualization. Besides the official competition, the festival hosts a professional forum organising several conferences. Professionals from major international companies related to these fields of animation present the most interesting projects of the year at the forum.

Animated series My Knight and Me big hit at Cartoon Forum

The presentation at Cartoon Forum of kids comedy show My Knight and Me (formerly Oh Brave Knight and I!) attracted a record number of over 300 people. Never in the 22-year history of Cartoon Forum has a pitch attracted so many investors, broadcasters and distributors.

The series is developed with Canal+ Family in France. The producers will attend MIPCOM in Cannes next month to follow up on the interest generated at Cartoon Forum with broadcasters and international distributors. My Knight and Me is a spin-off of a short film by Joeri entitled 850 meters, currently in production, and produced by Thuristar in coproduction with Lunanime.

Magnificent seven at Cartoon Forum

Cartoon Forum 2012 recently unveiled its selection of 66 animation projects that will be presented this fall in Toulouse. No fewer than six Flemish and one Belgian project are pitching at the European co-production Forum for Animated TV-series (11-14 September).

Still from Ultrapictura's Winnie the Witch and Wilbur Ultra Pictura, an animation production house specialising in using painterly visuals, has teamed up with UK’s Total Immersion Ltd for Winnie the Witch and Wilbur (pictured). The series is based on the best-selling picture books of the same name, written by Valerie Thomas and illustrated by Korky Paul. Flemish producer Thuristar, which worked on Vivi Film’s animated series Plankton Invasion, is presenting My Knight and Me together with French producer TeamTO. The series is a spin-off of a short film by Joeri Christaen entitled 850 Meters, currently in production with Thuristar and Lunanime. The animated series will span 52 episodes of 13 minutes.
