EN - Nono wants to be like his father - the best police inspector in the world - but he constantly gets into trouble. Two days before his Bar Mitzvah, he is sent away to his uncle Sjmoel who is supposed to get him back on track. However, during the train ride Nono gets one last chance to prove himself... Together with master-burglar Felix Glick he stops the train and enters a world of disguises, chases, French chansons and that of Zohara, a mysterious woman whose secrets will change his life forever.

Nono doet zijn best om op hem te lijken, maar raakt steeds in de problemen. Daarom stuurt zijn vader hem twee dagen voor zijn bar mitswa naar zijn oom Sjmoel om volwassen te worden. In de trein treft Nono een mysterieuze opdracht: het is zijn laatste kans om zich te bewijzen. Samen met meestercrimineel Felix Glick trekt hij naar de Franse Rivièra, op zoek naar de waarheid over zijn moeder. Zal hij achterhalen wat haar geheim is voor zijn vader hem opgespoord heeft?

Nono gets Golden Elephant for Best Screenplay

Vincent Bal’s feature film The Zigzag Kid has won a Golden Elephant for Best Screenplay at the International Children’s Film Festival in India. The award winners were revealed at the festival’s official awards ceremony which took place at the end of the seven-day festival in Hyderabad.

The Zigzag KidThe Zigzag Kid had already proved itself to be a crowd pleaser among young film lovers. The film received its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012 and went on to open the Generation programme at this year’s Berlinale.

Vincent Bal’s The Zigzag Kid wins European Young Audience Award

The Zigzag Kid by Vincent Bal has won the European Young Audience Award after 12-to-14-year-olds from nine European countries casted their vote for one of the three nominated youth films. The Zigzag Kid, a Dutch-Belgian co-production quickly surfaced as the absolute favourite by grabbing the highest scores in every country. Issued by the European Film Academy (EFA), it’s the second time the Young Audience Award was presented.

An audience of 12-to-14-year-olds got the chance to watch EFA’s three nominated films and to vote for their favourite. Also in the running was the Franco-Belgian animation feature The Suicide Shop as well as the German film UPSIDEdown.

Flanders in full force at Berlinale

Felix van Groeningen’s The Broken Circle Breakdown and Janet van den Brand’s short Rosa, Anna’s Lil’ Sis have been selected for the Berlin international Film Festival (7-17 February). Both films will premiere internationally in the fest’s Panorama Specials strand and Generation Kplus shorts competition respectively. Two co-productions were also confirmed: Flemish director Vincent Bal’s Nono, the Zigzag Kid, which will open the Generation programme, and Willemiek Kluijfhout’s Mussels in Love. Recent features such as Peter Monsaert's Offline and Gert Embrechts' Allez, Eddy! make their market debuts at the Berlinale's European Film Market (EFM). Other EFM entries are The Fifth Season by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, as well as co-productionsTenderness by Marion Hänsel, Kinshasa Kids by Marc-Henri Wajnberg, Pinocchio by Enzo d'Alo and Tango Libre by Frédéric Fonteyne.

BerlinaleThe Broken Circle Breakdown is represented internationally by The Match Factory. Bal's Nono confirmed for Berlinale

Vincent Bal’s Nono, the Zigzag Kid, has been selected for the 63th Berlin International Film Festival (7-17 February). The film, which stars Burghart Klaussner and Isabella Rossellini, will screen in the youth section of the Berlinale, Generation Kplus. Earlier this year, Nono had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Five Flemish productions to Toronto

Peter Brosens & Jessica Woodworth’s The Fifth Season has been selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF, 6-16 September). This is the film's second invitation from a major international film festival after its place in the competition in Venice. Toronto also added Vincent Bal’s Nono, the Zigzag Kid, Marc-Henri Wajnberg’s Kinshasa Kids, Jacques Audiard’s Rust and Bone and Comrade Kim goes Flying by Kim Gwan Hun, Nicholas Bonner and Anja Daelemans to its line-up.

the fifth season brosens woodworthThe Fifth Season will be competing in the Wavelengths section for ‘films that expand our notions of cinema’ and made by ‘daring, visionary and autonomous voices’. Toronto will also mark the film’s North American premiere. This new feature by filmmaking duo Brosens and Woodworth is the last part of a trilogy. After Khadak, which won the Lion of the Future/Luigi de Laurentiis Award in Venice in 2006 (where it was shown as part of the Venice Days), and the award-winning Altiplano which received its world premiere at the Cannes Critics' Week, The Fifth Season once again focuses on the troubled relationship between man and nature.
