synopsis

Five years after the end of Salamander I, CI Paul Gerardi is still living with Patricia at Castle Wolfs. Their daughters, Sofie and Nicola, are at university. Paul lost his wife Sarah, Sofie's mother, in a bomb attack in the first season. Patricia has also lost her first husband and the father of Nicola. This season, the murder in Matonge of a political refugee from Kitangi, an African state and a former Belgian colony, draws Paul into a conspiracy about two diamond mines in Kitangi. The trail leads to the Brussels-based Minnebach Private lnvestment Bank. Minnebach is - together with three foreign banks - the financial engine behind the rebel army under General Bombé, who is waging an exceptionally bloody campaign to seize power in Kitangi. When Paul Gerardi starts interfering in a politically-driven plot, he has to run for his life once again.
Vijf jaar na het einde van Salamander 1 woont hoofdinspecteur Paul Gerardi nog altijd met Patricia Wolfs op Kasteel Wolfs. Hun dochters Sofie en Nicola lopen universiteit. Paul verloor in de eerste reeks zijn echtgenote Sarah in een aanslag. Zij is de moeder van Sofie. Ook Patricia verloor haar eerste partner en de vader van haar dochter Nicola. In de tweede reeks trekt een moord in de wijk Matongé op een politieke balling uit het ministaatje Kitangi - ooit behorend tot de Belgische kolonie - hoofdinspecteur Paul Gerardi langzaam maar zeker in het moeras van een samenzwering die draait om het bezit van de diamantmijnen in het staatje. Het spoor leidt naar de Brusselse Minnebach Private lnvestment Bank. Minnebach is - samen met drie buitenlandse banken - de financiële motor achter het rebellenleger dat onder leiding van Generaal Bombé op uiterst bloedige wijze de macht in Kitangi aan het grijpen is. De inzet: twee diamantmijnen. Met Bombé als president wordt de uitbating ervan volledig toegewezen aan de Brusselse bankconnectie. Miljarden euro's zullen worden verdiend met het bloed van duizenden onschuldigen. Er bestaat echter een film waarop toekomstig president Bombé te zien is terwijl hij deelneemt aan een moordpartij. De film - die het hele complot kan ondermijnen - werd destijds het land uitgesmokkeld door een Belgische piloot, Marc Jopart. Deze Jopart is niemand minder dan de overleden echtgenoot van Patricia Wolfs. De sleutel van het geheim dat Paul op gevaar van eigen leven zal ontrafelen, zit dus in zijn eigen huis, binnen zijn familie, zonder dat hij het weet. De jacht op de film brengt Pauls leven en gezin opnieuw in gevaar, zeker wanneer Minnebach en zijn entourage hun pijlen richten op dochters Nicola en Sofie. De malafide bankiers wanen zich veilig, want bij de gerespecteerde politici zijn angst en hypocrisie sterker dan gewetensnood. Wanneer Paul Gerardi in dit complot gaat wroeten, moet hij opnieuw rennen voor zijn leven.
