EN - Pierre is one of the plantation managers pouring chemicals into the poor region of Misiones. In love with a young militant he tries to step back. But with the social war going on, switching sides is not so easy.

NL - Pierre wordt door een multinational in Misiones, Argentinië aangesteld om de ontbossing en het planten van nieuwe dennen te beheren. De producten waarmee hij de vruchtbare grond behandelt, zorgen voor veel verontwaardiging in Misiones omdat ze in verband worden gebracht met de talloze aandoeningen en ziektes bij de lokale bevolking. Gecharmeerd door de jonge lokale activiste, Ana, probeert hij van koers te veranderen maar wanneer er een sociale oorlog uitbreekt, blijkt dit moeilijker dan verwacht.

Cafard travels to Montreal’s Festival du Nouveau Cinéma

Jan Bultheel’s debut feature Cafard is to have its North American premiere at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (7-18 October) in Montreal. An animated feature inspired by true events, the film will screen in the Festival’s Panorama programme. Rights have already been sold to France, where Eurozoom will release Cafard in theatres on 18 November.

CafardFollowing its world premiere at the Ostend Film Festival, Cafard is set for its international premiere at the Busan International Film Festival (1-10 October). The Festival du Nouveau Cinema will now be the film’s North American premiere, with Cafard screening in the Panorama section.

Paradise Trips en route to Germany

Raf Reyntjens’s Paradise Trips has been invited into Competition at the International Film Festival in Mannheim-Heidelberg (9-24 October), where the film is to have its international première. The festival line-up also includes three co-productions with Flanders.

Paradise TripsIn the film, which marks Reyntjens’s directorial debut, Gene Bervoets (Schneider vs Bax, Salamander) plays Mario, a grumpy coach driver. On the verge of his own retirement, he has to bring a motley crew of partygoers to a music festival in Croatia. His journey soon turns into a life-changing trip that confronts him with his own prejudices - and with his long-lost son.
