EN - Champion is raised by his grandmother Madame Souza. Her gift of a tricycle starts a craze for cycle racing that becomes the cornerstone of their life together... After years of relentless training Champion makes it to the Tour de France, the toughest cycling event in the world. Alas! Champion and a handful of other top competitors are mysteriously kidnapped by a pair of sinister crooks with hangdog expressions. Supported by her faithful sidekick, fat and flatulent dog Bruno, Madame Souza sets off to rescue her beloved Champion. An epic adventure leads them across the Atlantic to a vast seaport metropolis named Belleville, headquarters of the notorious French Mafia. Lost and confused in the threatening darkness of the great city, Madame Souza and Bruno encounter the Belleville Triplettes. In their youth, a glamourous close-harmony act, these three batty old ladies are now a bizarre jazz combo. Souza joins the band. At their very first gig, She discovers Champion is being held captive by the mafia Godfather himself. All hell breaks loose and the chase in on!

FR - Champion est un petit garçon élevé par sa grand-mère, Madame Souza. Le tricycle qu’elle lui offre entraîne l’engouement du garçon pour le cyclisme et devient un tournant pour leur vie. Après des années d’entraînement sans relâche, Champion participe au Tour de France, le plus grand événement de cyclisme au monde. Hélas ! Champion et une poignée d’autres sportifs en compétition sont mystérieusement kidnappés par un couple de sinistres truands à l’air abattu.  Avec le soutien de Bruno, son chien fidèle gros et flatulent, Madame Souza part à la recherche de son Champion adoré. Un aventure héroïque les entraîne à travers l’Océan Atlantique, jusqu’à une mégalopole nommée Belleville, quartier général de la Mafia française. Perdus et désorientés dans la pénombre menaçante de la ville, Madame Souza et Bruno rencontre les Triplettes de Belleville composées de trois vieilles femmes cinglées.  Dans leur jeunesse, une comédie quasi harmonieuse et glamour, elles forment aujourd’hui un groupe de jazz étrange. Souza rejoint le groupe. Lors de leur premier spectacle, elle découvre que Champion est tenu prisonnier par le patron de la Mafia en personne. Le conflit éclate et la poursuite est ouverte!

A Monster in Toronto

A Monster in Paris, the new animated feature by Bibo Bergeron (The Road to El Dorado, Shark Tale), is part of the kids’ section of the Toronto International Film Festival (8-18 September). Flemish co-producer Walking The Dog, which previously collaborated on the Oscar-nominated The Triplets of Belleville, was closely involved with the making of the film.

Scene from 'A Monster in Paris'Bibo Bergeron’s A Monster in Paris is set in the French capital in the beginning of the 20th century. A terrifying monster creates panic throughout the whole city. Emile, a shy movie operator, and Raoul, an eccentric inventor, decide to catch the monster terrorising Paris. One of the main roles is voiced by singer Vanessa Paradis.
