Double Take closes MoMa’s Documentary Fortnight
Johan Grimonprez’s Double Take has been selected as tonight’s (3 March) closing night attraction at this year’s MoMa’s Documentary Fortnight.
MoMa’s Documentary Fortnight is a prestigious film festival of non-fiction in New York, which is organised by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa). It pays attention to the most inventive and remarkable documentaries, made by filmmakers from all around the world. Double Take closes the annual two-week festival on 3 March. In Double Take, media artist and filmmaker Johan Grimonprez pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock and his oeuvre. It combines fiction and reality, using fragments from Hitchcock’s masterpieces and archive material such as commercials and news reels. The film revisits Hitchcock’s favorite themes: the play of doubles, the politics of fear and the ideological power of cinema and television. Double Take is written by award-winning British novelist Tom McCarthy (Remainder, Tintin and the Secret of Literature). Hitchcock’s voice is brought back to life by voice actor Mark Perry, while Ron Burrage acts as a double. The film closes with the ultimate confrontation between Alfred Hitchcock himself and his double. But who is who, and who is the mastermind behind the perfect murder?
