Double bill in Bardonecchia for Visualantics

Two projects developed at Visualantics are to be presented at this year’s ‘Doc in Europe Forum’ (7-10 July) in Bardonecchia, Italy. At the event, producers get a chance to pitch their project to a number of key European commissioning editors.

Last year Steven Dhoedt from Visualantics  successfully pitched the project Inside the Metaverse at the documentary forum. As Visualantics had recently finished the documentary they were invited to present their film and success story in the series ‘Succesful pitches’ at this year’s Doc in Europe event. The production company has also once again been selected for the important pitching sessions with their new documentary project, State of Play.

Director and producer Dhoedt describes his figurative ‘double bill’ as ‘quite exceptional, but in itself a very interesting situation'. Inside the Metaverse will be screened on 8 July while the new State of Play project will be pitched on Friday or Saturday for a group of commissioning editors from all over Europe, including execs from the BBC, Sundance, Channel 4, YLE and ARTE. The documentary forum is a perfect chance for producers to find new partners for projects.

Inside the Metaverse explores the divide between reality as we know it and the virtual world. All across the network society, people have started to flock to online worlds for very different reasons. We call this online universe 'The Metaverse'. Inside the Metaverse introduces a patchwork of characters from all walks of life and nationalities, for whom virtual worlds have become an important part of their lives. The new project, State of Play, will follow four professional gamers from South Korea. All of them are at different stages of their career and from different backgrounds. Over the course of one game season, we get to know and understand the characters.
