Montréal to get first taste of Oxygen
Hans Van Nuffel’s Oxygen is to have its world premiere at the prestigious World Film Festival of Montreal on 28 August. The film is selected in competition and will be contending for the Grand Prix des Amériques.
Co-written by director Van Nuffel and Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem (The Over the Hill Band, Moscow, Belgium), Oxygen is Van Nuffel’s feature debut, after having made a name for himself with shorts such as Fal and The End of the Ride. Montreal already has somewhat of a history with Flemish cinema, as Nic Balthazar’s Ben X won the Grand Prix des Amériques, the Audience Award and the Ecumenical Jury Prize in 2007. Oxygen is scheduled to make its Belgian debut as opening film of the Film Festival of Ostend on 3 September. A theatrical release is planned for 8 September. In the film, two young men share an incurable illness. But is their love for the women in their lives strong enough to conquer their fear of dying? Oxygen is produced by Jean-Claude Van Rijckeghem and Dries Phlypo for A Private View, in co-operation with Lemming Film in the Netherlands and with the support of the Flemish Audiovisual Fund.
