MISSION STATEMENT
Created in 1990, Flanders Image is the audiovisual export agency for Flanders and Brussels, Belgium. It is in charge of the promotion of Flemish audiovisual creations abroad and is the sole official representative of Flanders cinema at all key international festivals and markets. In 2003, Flanders Image became part of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) where its mission is to both maximise the cultural impact of Flemish audiovisual creations and enhance its economic growth abroad. As of 2009, there's also Location Flanders, the film commission. Flanders Image supports Flemish audiovisual creations and talents at the major film festivals around the globe. It produces publications, both online and in print, informs curators and buyers, runs market and festival booths, etc.
Together with third parties, it explores emerging markets and new and improved ways of presenting audiovisual creations. Flanders Image is supported by the Flanders Government and by Brussels Export. Preferential partners are ACE Digital House, Cinematek, Mia and SACD. IMPORTANT Festival curators interested in organizing special events highlighting our audiovisual creations should get in touch with Flanders Image preferably 12 to 14 months prior to the scheduled event.
During a first meeting, we discus the initiative and its goals, as well as draw up a list of what the festival organizers expect (and by when). We also look at how feasible these expectations are. Afterwards, Flanders Image will produce a terms and conditions document to be agreed upon, and then signed by both parties at least six months prior to the event. Flanders Image usually does not financially support special film programmes, nor can it be involved in the contacting of sponsors or any other financial sources. It supports the selected events by giving assistance. Being a small organization, Flanders Image can only commit itself to a limited number of special programmes annually. Priority goes to initiatives in the neighbouring countries, followed by the rest of Europe, then the world. Flanders Image expects from the festival organisers it works with both for specials as well as in general that all necessary steps are taken to prevent piracy or any other form of copyright infringement.
