Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli's animated feature A Cat In Paris has been nominated for the European Film Award for Best Animated Feature, it was announced by the European Film Academy at this year's Seville European Film Festival. Almost simultaneously, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences confirmed that the film has also been shortlisted for the Animated Feature Film category at the 84th Academy Awards.
In A Cat in Paris, a cat leads a secret double life: It spends its days with Zoe, the daughter of a police chief, but by night accompanies a cat burglar on the rooftops of the city. One day, while Zoe's mother is investigating a series of night burglaries, a criminal kidnaps the little girl.
As well as being among the three features nominated for the European Film Awards, A Cat In Paris is among the 18 animated features eligible in the Best Animated Feature Film for the Oscars. The winners of the European Film Awards will be announced in Berlin on 3 December. The Academy Awards will be presented on 26 February 2012. The nominations will be announced on 24 January.
The film received its international premiere as part of the Generation K+ programme at this year's Berlin International Film festival. Directed by Gagnol and Felicioli, Flemish producer of the Franco-Belgian venture is Annemie Degryse for Lunanime. A Cat In Paris received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF). International sales are handled by Films Distribution.
