The Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) has approved funding for eight fiction feature projects in different stages of development this month. The list contains both established names such as Felix van Groeningen (The Misfortunates) and Caroline Strubbe (Lost Persons Area) as well as these of emerging talents.
Half of the greenlighted projects are still in the early stages of development and have received scriptwriting support. Lee & Cindy C., a tragicomedy on rock’n roll dreams and unpredictable love, will be produced by Eyeworks Film & TV drama and scripted by Stany Crets (Old Belgium). Director Manu Riche, mostly known for his documentary work such as Tempo of a Restless Soul, receives script funding for a feature film project titled Problemski Hotel. Welp, scripted by Jonas Govaerts (Monster!) and Roel Mondelaers, is a Potemkino production. And finally there’s Lena will be written by newcomer Lukas Bossuyt and produced by Caviar (Madly in Love, Bo, My Queen Karo).
Another three projects received production funding: Caroline Strubbe’s Lost persons Area follow-up Deep in a Dream of You will be produced by Minds Meet, as will Frédéric Fonteyne’s Tango Libre. Fonteyne is well known for films such as Une liaison pornographique and La femme de Gilles. Felix van Groeningen’s The Broken Circle Breakdown featuring the Cover-Ups of Alabama has now reached production phase.
Finally, postproduction support was exceptionally granted to Lena by Christophe Van Rompaey (Moscow, Belgium), a co-production with The Netherlands. Flemish producer is A Private View.
