Allez, Eddy! by Gert Embrechts is one of three nominees for Cinekid’s Jury Award for Best Dutch Family Film, worth €7,500. Cinekid is one the leading international children’s film events with screenings at more than 30 cities in the Netherlands and an average of 60,000 visits.
Located in Amsterdam, Cinekid is one of the largest media festivals for children, giving them the opportunity to visit over 500 media productions selected by the festival: feature films, children’s documentaries, short films, animations, television series and single productions, cross media productions, interactive installations and set-ups as well as workshops. Each year, several jury and audience awards are handed out, Allez, Eddy! being nominated for the Jury Award for Best Family Film.
Jelte Blommaert plays 11-year-old Freddy, son of a local butcher in nowhere land and a passionate cycling fan. His isolated life is totally disrupted when the first supermarket opens its doors in the village organising a cycling race. By secretly participating, a new world opens up for Freddy and those surrounding him. Peter Van den Begin (Deadline 14/10, Old Belgium), Barbara Sarafian (Moscow, Belgium, Clan) and Els Dottermans (The Intruder, Love Belongs to Everyone) form the main cast.
A heart-warming comedy, the film scored well among its target audience. At the International Children’s and Youth Film Festival in Schlingel, Germany Allez, Eddy! scooped the awards for Best Film and Best Actor. It was also one of the audience favourites at the Palm Springs fest and took home New York’s Stony Brook Audience Award.
Gert Embrechts scripted Allez, Eddy!. Bert Pot was taken on board as DoP; Els Voorspoels handled editing. Jacqueline de Goeij of Ciné Cri de Coeur produced the film, co-producers are Anchorage Entertainment, Delux Productions and Dutch prodco BosBros. Allez, Eddy! received funding from the Flanders Audiovisual Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Joke Schauvliege.
