Hans Herbots and Sam Miller (Fortitude, Luther) team up to direct Rellik, a six-part miniseries for BBC One and HBO’s Cinemax. The series, written by the creators of The Missing, started shooting in London this week.

Hans Herbots - set RivieraRellik – killer spelt backwards – turns the serial killer genre on its head. The perpetrator is caught before the drama moves backwards in time to the very beginning – the crime itself and, ultimately, the killer. The search for the killer is headed by Gabriel Markham, a damaged and disfigured Met detective backed up by Elaine, an ambitious inspector.

Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones, Fortitude) and Jodi Balfour (The Crown, Bomb Girls) play the main roles, joined by a stellar cast including Paterson Joseph (The Beach), Paul Rhys (Borgia), Michael Shaeffer (Star Wars: Rogue One) and Lærke Winther (Dicte).

Flemish filmmaker Hans Herbots co-directs the series with Sam Miller, whose credits include episodes of such series as Hotel Babylon, Spooks, Black Sails, Fortitude and Luther. Filming on Rellik started last week, and the series will be entirely shot in north and east London.

“Quite a contrast with the sun-drenched set of Riviera,” jokes Herbots, who recently shot two episodes of the British 10-part series Riviera in Nice. Starring Julia Stiles, Riviera will be launched at next month’s MIPTV in Cannes. Herbots, known for directing such titles as The Treatment, The Spiral and The Divine Monster, also shot High Tides, a new Dutch-Flemish drama series visualising the aftermath of an unseen flood which washes away large areas of the Netherlands and Belgium.

Commissioned by BBC One and HBO subsidiary Cinemax, Rellik is produced by New Pictures and Two Brothers Productions. All3media International handles worldwide sales.

Hans Herbots is repped by Curtis Brown, the UK agency that also represents Jakob Verbruggen (The Fall, London Spy, Black Mirror) and Tim Mielants (Legion, Peaky Blinders).
