Sahim Omar Kalifa’s short Baghdad Messi keeps on travelling the international festival scene with more than 15 new festival selections confirmed, among them Oscar-qualifying fests as Tampere, Bermuda and Cleveland.
Kalifa’s short about a group of Iraqi children awaiting the Champions League Finale is also set to screen at the Go Short International Short Film Festival in the Netherlands, the Kurdish Film Festival in Sweden, the Arab Film Festival in Berlin as well as the International Encounters of Arab Cinemas in France, amongst others. Baghdad Messi is equally invited to the KingBonn International New Media Shorts Festival in China, where Kalifa’s Land of the Heroes grabbed the Award for Best Short, worth 40,000 euro, in 2012.
In Poland, Baghdad Messi recently received another Special Mention at the Zoom International Film Festival. The film was previously laureled at a.o. the Gulf Film Festival, the Beirut International Film Festival, Visioni Corte, the Regiofun International Film Festival and the Arlington Film Festival.
Scripted by Sahim Omar Kalifa and Kobe Van Steenberghe, Baghdad Messi was produced by a team productions (Image, The Circle) and could count on the support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Joke Schauvliege.
