Principal photography has begun on five-part cross-media venture The Spiral, an ambitious international co-production between several northern European territories. Shooting will mainly take place in Scandinavia and Benelux. Hans Herbots directs, while production house Caviar initiated the project.
In The Spiral, an international artist community in Copenhagen gets entangled in a crime investigation when one of the artists mysteriously disappears. The series will screen end of 2012 in Belgium (Canvas), The Netherlands (VARA), Sweden (SVT), Norway (NRK), Finland (YLE) and Denmark (TV3). Simultaneous with the broadcasts, audiences in all participating territories will be able to discover the characters and the story through different media.
The main cast features Flemish actors Thomas Ryckwaert, Johan Van Assche, Johan Leysen and Lien Van de Kelder. From other territories are Tuva Novotny and Donald Högberg (Sweden), Tommi Korpela and Elmer Bäck (Finland), Thure Lindhardt and Paw Henriksen (Denmark), Viktoria Winge (Norway) and Teun Luijkx (The Netherlands).
The production is initiated by Caviar (The Emperor of Taste, Madonna’s Pig, Madly in Love, Bo) which is working together on the project with Flemish broadcaster Canvas. Director is Hans Herbots (The Divine Monster, Bo, Long Weekend, Storm Force).
The Spiral is produced with support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF).
