The Match Factory, the Cologne-based sales agent which also sold The Broken Circle Breakdown, has acquired worldwide sales rights to Lukas Dhont's debut feature Girl, it was announced by Screen International at the start of the Berlin International Film Festival. French distributor Diaphana Distribution is the first to acquire the national rights for France.

Girl is the story of a 15-year-old girl born in a boy's body who is ready to risk everything to pursue her dream of becoming a ballerina. It was developed in the framework of the Cinéfondation Résidence, a residency programme of the Cannes Film Festival, and won the Work in Progress Prize at both last year's CONNeXT and at the European Film Festival of Les Arcs.

Screen International recently cited Dhont's debut feature one of the "hottest projects from the Benelux in 2018". Dhont previously directed the highly acclaimed shorts L'Infini (2014) and Headlong (2012). Girl is produced by Menuet's Dirk Impens.
