Flemish animation studio Walking The Dog by Eric Goossens and Anton Roebben has been chosen as European Producer of the Year during Cartoon Movie Tributes, the awards for outstanding contribution to the development of European animation.
Divided into three categories – director, distributor and producer of the year – the Cartoon Movie Tributes bring together the best European animated features as well as some of the continent’s most active companies within the industry. Its aim is to reward exceptional achievements, companies or personalities that have a dynamic and positive influence on the animation industry. Over 730 professionals attending Cartoon Movie selected the winners, choosing Brussels-based animation hub Walking The Dog as European Producer of the Year.
Other competitors in the producers’ category included French Label Anim and Mélusine Productions from Luxembourg. Thomas Szabo and Hélène Giraud won Director of the year for Minuscule, leaving Mathias Malzieu and Stéphane Berla of French-Belgian co-production Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart empty-handed. European Distributor of the Year is Le Pacte from France.
Founded in 2000 by Eric Goossens and Anton Roebben, Walking The Dog has become one of Flanders’ main animation studios concentrating on international artistically animated projects. Its portfolio covers a wide range of productions, ranging from shorts (Nuru) over series (Picnic With Cake, Kika & Bob) to international co-productions as Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart, The Congress, Pinocchio, A Monster in Paris or The Secret of Kells. Last summer, Brussels-based Walking The Dog also launched a second Belgian division in the city of Genk.
The Tributes were awarded during the 16th edition of Cartoon Movie, Europe’s prime pitching and co-production platform on animation. For the second consecutive year, a Flemish animation producer was laureled as animation studio GRID also received the honours at last year’s Cartoon Forum in Toulouse.
