Flemish filmmaker Lukas Dhont’s debut feature Girl has been selected for the prestigious Cannes section Un Certain Regard, it was announced at the Festival press conference in Paris this morning. Girl will have its world premiere in Cannes and will compete for the Prix Un Certain Regard, as well as the Caméra d’Or prize for best debut feature. This is the first time in 29 years that a Flemish film has been selected for Un Certain Regard.
The Match Factory acquires international sales rights for Girl
The Match Factory, the Cologne-based sales agent which also sold The Broken Circle Breakdown, has acquired worldwide sales rights to Lukas Dhont's debut feature Girl, it was announced by Screen International at the start of the Berlin International Film Festival.
Girl was developed in the framework of the Cinéfondation Résidence and won the Work in Progress Prize at both last year's CONNeXT and at the European Film Festival of Les Arcs. Screen International recently cited Dhont's debut feature one of the "hottest projects from the Benelux in 2018".
Lukas Dhont’s project Girl wins Work In Progress Award at Les Arcs
Girl, Lukas Dhont’s debut feature currently in post-production, has won the Titrafilm Work In Progress Award at this year’s Les Arcs European Film Festival. The Award comes with an EUR 10,000 post-production grant. In October, Dhont won the Grid VFX Works In Progress Award at this year’s edition of CONNeXT.
Girl is the story of a 15-year-old girl born in a boy's body who is ready to risk everything to pursue her dream of becoming a ballerina. In Les Arcs, Dhont presented some excerpts from his film which is currently being edited.
