EN - Bélen, a young woman from Murcia, grew up in a family of hysterical women. When her grandmother Marta passes away, a legacy issue emerges when Marta’s ex-husband Fernando, who has a new life in Ghent, inherits part of the estate. Bélen travels to Ghent to resolve things and, in doing so, discovers truths about her family and herself.

NL - Belén, een adolescente uit Murcia, groeit op in een familie van hysterische vrouwen. Na het overlijden van haar grootmoeder Marta duikt een erfeniskwestie op. De ex-man van Marta, Fernando, blijkt een nieuw leven te hebben opgebouwd in Gent en erft een deel van haar vermogen. De familie is razend en wil hem het geld ontfutselen terwijl Belén zich probeert af te zetten tegen de haat en een reis naar Gent onderneemt. Lost ze er de erfeniskwestie op of leert ze simpelweg haar grootvader beter kennen? Belén gaat op zoek naar de waarheid over haar familie en over zichzelf en ontdekt dat wijsheid in de kunst van het aanvaarden ligt.

Après la mort de sa grand-mère Martha, une dispute à propos de l'héritage éclate. l'ex-époux de Martha, Fernando, qui semble s'être construit une nouvelle vie à Gand hérite d'une partie de sa fortune. La famille est furieuse et veut lui voler l'argent. Belén se rebelle contre la haine et entreprend un voyage à Gand. Résout-elle la question de l'héritage ou rencontre-elle simplement son grand-père? Belén est à la recherche de la vérité sur sa famille et sur elle-même. Enfin, elle découvre que la sagesse est dans l'art de l'acceptation.

Las Meninas takes home awards quartet

Eva-Maria Cools’ short film Las Meninas has won no less than four awards at the Women’s Independent Film Festival, which took place from 9 till 11 May. The LA-based film fest awards the best independent films made by women filmmakers from around the world. Its mission is to give a voice to the many talented and underrepresented women creating great work in the independent film world.

Las MeninasAlthough a 30-minute short, Las Meninas competed in the Narrative Feature Film category of the festival, immediately winning four of the section’s awards. Eva-Maria Cools was awarded Best Narrative Feature, Best Directing and Best Screenplay while the film’s leading lady Elisa Mouliaà was named Best Actress.

Short Cinema celebrated at Leuven Short Fest

The 17th edition of the Leuven International Short Film Festival (3-10 December) again highlights talented short cinema from Flanders. With a strong Flemish short film competition, the VAF Wildcards and a number of professional activities, Leuven is for a short time the epicenter of short cinema in Flanders.

Leuven International Short Film Festival2011 has been a strong year for Flemish shorts with the Cannes Jury Award for Wannes Destoop’s Swimsuit 46 and the Grand Prize in Valladolid for Kevin Meul’s The Extraordinary Life of Rocky. Now the IKL fest has selected 20 short films from promising directors who may give us a new wave of international Awards in the future.
