EN - 1888: Lute-maker Vedder has to move when his home, opposite the recently completed Central Station in Amsterdam, must make way for the planned Victoria Hotel. His cousin Anijs, a pharmacist in the northern provinces of the Netherlands, has got into a fix after illegal medical practices and is looking for a way out for his wife and a colony of impoverished peat-cutters, whom he promises a future in the US. Vedder and Anijs must come with up a scheme from which they will all fully benefit. This, however, will have tragic consequences.
