MoMA presents Caroline Strubbe to New York audiences

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York is to present the work of director Caroline Strubbe, the first of the new batch of Flemish filmmakers to have her films selected by the prestigious cultural institute. Both her debut feature Lost Persons Area and her follow-up film I’m the same I’m an other will be screened on a daily basis throughout the first week of July.

I'm the same I'm an other‘Caroline Strubbe is a voice I haven’t heard before’, says Dave Kehr of the Film Department of the Museum of Modern Art. ‘At times intimate, detailed and realistic, but at the same time enigmatic, evasive and with a lot of respect for the mystery of people and places. I’m very proud and honoured to be able to present these extraordinary films to New York audiences.’

Marina, I’m the same… and 82 Days in April to Valladolid

There's a strong Flemish presence at this year's Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain (19-26 October), where Stijn Coninx’ feature film Marina and Caroline Strubbe’s I’m the same I’m an other screen in the Official Competition and Bart Van den Bempt’s debut feature 82 Days in April is in the fest’s Meeting Point programme. Bülent Öztürk’s short film Houses With Small Windows and Pieter Coudyzer’sThe Wake complete the Flemish line-up.

I'm the same I'm an otherAs part of the Official Competition, both Marina and I’m the same I’m an other are vying for the Golden and Silver Spike with cash awards worth €60,000 and €20,000, respectively, to support a Spanish release of the film.

New Strubbe feature to unspool at Toronto

Caroline Strubbe’s I’m the same I’m an other will be presented at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it is to receive its world premiere as part of the festival's Wavelengths programme, known for its daring, innovative and autonomous films that expand the notions of cinema.

As they take a ferry to the UK, traces of a common past come to light – a past filled with loss and sorrow. Talent counts at TIFF

Flemish actors will be appearing in some of the most eagerly awaited films at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Matthias Schoenaerts (BullheadRust and Bone - pictured) stars in Guillaume Canet’s re-edited Blood Ties which is to receive a Gala Presentation at the fest.

Matthias Schoenaerts in Rust & Bone Johan Leysen, known for his role in The American, stars in François Ozon’s Young and Beautiful. Leysen is also one of the leads, together with Koen De Bouw (The Memory of a Killer), Veerle Baetens (The Broken Circle Breakdown) and Jappe Claes (Dossier K.), in Montreal World Film Fest sensation The Verdict by Jan Verheyen.

Caroline Strubbe’s newest feature film I’m the same I’m an other has been invited to this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it is to receive its world premiere in the fest’s Wavelengths programme, showcasing daring, innovative and autonomous films that expand the notions of cinema. The Toronto International Film Festival runs from 5-15 September.

Strubbe’s Dream project at Les Arc Coproduction Village

I'm the same I'm an other, Caroline Strubbe’s highly anticipated follow-up to her feature debut, the Cannes Critic’s Week hit Lost Persons Area, is among the 22 projects selected to be pitched at this year’s Arc 1950 Coproduction Village. A part of the Les Arcs European Film Festival, the Coproduction Village takes place from 10-13 December.

I'm the same I'm an otherI'm the same I'm an other is produced by Tomas Leyers for Minds Meet in Brussels. The project received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF). Another minority co-production with VAF support is Kadija Leclere's The Bag of Flour which is among seven films, currently in post-production, looking for distributors and/or sales agents, that also will be presented by their producers and directors in Les Arcs.
