Bart Van den Bempt’s feature film debut 82 Days in April has been selected for the First Films World Competition at this year's Montreal World Film Festival (22 August-2 September). The film is to receive its world premiere at the 37th edition of the fest, while competing for the Golden Zenith.

82 Days in April82 Days in April tells the story of Herman and Marie, a married couple in their fifties, who travel to Istanbul to retrieve their recently deceased son’s backpack. Upon finding a logbook containing a detailed account of his trip throughout Turkey in his belongings, Herman decides to retrace his son’s journey and convinces his wife to join him in his attempt to find closure.

Leading roles in the film are taken by Marc Peeters and Karen Vanparys, who makes her comeback to the big screen with this picture. Camera work was done by Rik Zang, and Dieter Diependaele was responsible for editing. Norwegian trumpeter Arve Henriksen provided the film’s musical score. Bart Van den Bempt wrote the screenplay.

82 Days in April is a production by Ellen De Waele for Serendipity Films, the production company that achieved international fame through Tom Van Avermaet’s Oscar-nominated short Death of a Shadow. Serendipity Films also produced several award-winning documentaries such as Grande Hotel by Lotte Stoops (Hot Docs, FIPA) and Epilogue by Manno Lanssens (Visions du Réel, DocAviv). The film was co-produced by Mollywood and Stienette Bosklopper of Dutch production company Circe Films. Associated producer in Turkey is Serkan Cakarer of +90 Film Production.

82 Days in April received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Joke Schauvliege and was co-financed by the Belgian Tax Shelter.
