Broadcaster Arte has teamed up with the six northern European television channels that joined forces on producing the transmedia mystery The Spiral, Flemish public broadcasting network VRT being one of them. The Franco-German arts channel will diffuse the tv series in four supplementary territories.

Caviar's The SpiralThe production of The Spiral, a five-part drama series, unites six northern European networks while the storyline follows an equally international group of artists who get entangled in a crime investigation after one of them mysteriously disappears during an art heist. End 2012, the series will screen not only in Belgium (VRT) but also in The Netherlands (Vara), Sweden (SVT), Norway (NRK), Finland (YLE) and Denmark (TV3).  With Arte boarding the project, The Spiral will now also air in France, Germany, Austria and the German speaking region of Switzerland, in so doing covering an impressive total of ten regions already.

Simultaneous with the broadcasts, audiences in all participating territories will be able to discover the characters and the story through, both game and community designed to enhance the story world of The Spiral.

Peter De Maegd initiated the ambitious international coproduction for Brussels-based production company Caviar (The Emperor of Taste, King of the World), while Hans Herbots (The Divine Monster) was taken on as director. Shooting started in November 2011 in both Scandinavia and the Benelux. The Spiral received financial support through the VAF/Media Fund.
