Over the past two decades, Belgian cinema has risen to prominence in the international filmmaking arena, boasting richly diverse films that consistently garner critical praise and worldwide anticipation. To give the US public and professionals the opportunity to have a taste of this otherwise less commercially prominent cinema, the ‘Grit and Whimsy’ series showcases a recent Belgian film on every third Wednesday of the month.

In High Heels, Low Tide – written and directed by Ilse Somers – An, Karen, Elke and Dorian take a weekend 'girls getaway' trip to the Belgian coast where they discover that their once close friendships are now strained. Over the course of two days, the four women take a hard look at their relationships in order to come to terms with who they once were and who they've become. The film stars Eline Kuppens, Maaike Neuville, Marieke Dilles and Ellen Schoeters.

High Heels, Low Tide is a production of Viviane Vanfleteren for Vivi Film. The film received support from the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) amongst others. Read the interview in Flanders (i) magazine with director Ilse Somers.
