Leni Huyghe’s short Do You Know What Love Is grabbed the Jury Award for Best Film at the 5th edition of the Leiden International Short Film Experience (1 – 8 June). Also selected for Official Competition at the fest were Tom Van Avermaet’s Death of a Shadow, Marc James Roels and Emma De Swaef’s Oh Willy… and Nightfall by Niels Sabbe.

DYKWLIDo You Know What Love Is is a portrait of a generation with too many choices, too many ways to communicate, too much stuff. Do they know what love is? According to the jury Huyghe’s short film is ‘a film which dares to take an original view on life, to paraphrase Godard, a true 'attempt at cinema'. It offers a reflection on both (modern) human interaction and the way we, people, are mediated by images. This is all done with angry critique, but also with obnoxious enjoyment. The jury hopes the maker will be encouraged by the award to further explore her own voice.’

The short received its world première at the Leuven International Short Film Festival. Do You Know What Love is is produced, written and directed by Leni Huyghe. Death of a Shadow was made possible with the support of the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) through its VAF Wildcard competition.
