Marc James Roels and Emma De Swaef’s animated short Oh Willy… won the Grand Prize at both the International Animation Film Festival in Stuttgart (23-28 April) and the Czech Anifest in Tepliche (26 April-1May). The award in Stuttgart also comes with a €15,000 cash prize.

trailerThe creative short has stacked up the Award silverware since its premiere in 2012. Highlights in Willy’s career were the Cartoon d’Or, the highest European decoration in terms of animation which the short won in 2012, and its nomination for the French Césars in 2013.

Mainly created out of wool and felt, the animated short revolves around fifty-something Willy who returns to the naturist community of his youth to visit his dying mother. When she dies shortly after he arrives, Willy is confronted with the choices he made in his life.

Flemish producers of Oh Willy… are Ben Tesseur and Steven De Beul of animation hub Beast Animation. This animated short film was made possible with the support of the VAF/Film Fund of Flemish Cultural Affairs Minister Joke Schauvliege.
