Jan Eelen’s successful tv series The Tour has been selected for competition at the Series Mania Festival (16 - 22 April) in Paris, France. The festival for promising TV series, organized by the prestigious Forum des Images, also invited no less than three Eyeworks productions for its line-up. Double Life, The Divine Monster and Old Belgium will feature in the fest’s ‘professional showcase.’
The Forum des Images, one of the cinema hot spots in Paris and France, launched the Series Mania Festival in 2010. The series in official competition at the festival, amongst them Jan Eelen’s The Tour, are now in the running for the fest’s much desired Audience Award.
TV Stars for Eyeworks’ Double Life, Old Belgium
Eyeworks’ Double Life grabbed the Best Drama Series award at this year’s Flemish Television Stars awards ceremony. Peter Van den Begin received the Best Actor award for his role in Old Belgium, another Eyeworks series, which was based on his childhood memories. Nathalie Meskens received both the Best Actress award as well as the audience’s Personality Award for her performance in Tegen de sterren op.The Smartest Person in the World, the gameshow presented by filmmaker Erik Van Looy, won the Best Entertainment award as well as the Audience Award for Best Programme.
The School of Lukaku was voted Best Reality Series, while the award for Best Lifestyle Show went to cookery programme Dagelijkse kost and VRT News was named Best News Programme. MTV veejay Marcel Vanthilt and An Lemmens received the Best Presenter awards.
Eight feature projects to receive VAF funding
The Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) has approved funding for eight fiction feature projects in different stages of development this month. The list contains both established names such as Felix van Groeningen (The Misfortunates) and Caroline Strubbe (Lost Persons Area) as well as these of emerging talents.
Half of the greenlighted projects are still in the early stages of development and have received scriptwriting support. Lee & Cindy C., a tragicomedy on rock’n roll dreams and unpredictable love, will be produced by Eyeworks Film & TV drama and scripted by Stany Crets (Old Belgium). Manu Riche receives script funding for a feature film project titled Problemski Hotel.
