Little Alfie has no idea what is happening to him when, on the night of his 7th birthday, he changes into a white, fluffy animal: a little werewolf. He has always felt different from his foster parents and foster brother Timmie, but this is a little too different. At night, when it’s a full moon he runs through the park and the garden of the neighbours, happy hunting ducks and chickens. When the daylight starts to show he goes back home tired and wakes up as a little boy. Timmie thinks it’s really cool and gives Alfie the name “Alfie the little werewolf”. The sensitive Alfie doesn’t want to be a werewolf. He’s afraid his fosterparents wouldn’t want him any more if they knew who he really is. Alfie wants to protect his secret at all costs. But is this possible? It will be a full moon every month…

Le petit Alfie n’a pas idée de ce qui lui arrive lorsque, la nuit de son 7ème anniversaire, il se transforme en animal blanc et duveteux : un petit loup-garou. Il s’est toujours senti différent de ses parents adoptifs et de son frère adoptif Timmie, mais à ce point, c’est un peu trop. Les nuits de pleine lune, il court à travers le parc et les jardins des voisins, chassant joyeusement canards et poulets. Quand le jour commence à se lever, il rentre épuisé à la maison et se réveille en petit garçon. Timmie trouve cela très cool et donne à Alfie le nom d’ "Alfie, le petit loup-garou". Le sensible Alfie ne veut pas être un loup-garou. Il craint que ses parents adoptifs ne veuillent plus de lui s’ils apprenaient sa véritable identité. Alfie veut à tout prix protéger son secret, mais cela est-il possible ? Il y aura une pleine lune tous les mois…

Best Film and Best Actor for Allez, Eddy!
Gert Embrechts’ feature debut, Allez, Eddy!, grabbed two awards at the 17th International Film Festival for Children and Young Audience in Schlingel, Germany (15-21 October). In addition to the Award for Best Film, 12-year-old leading actor Jelte Blommaert was also voted Best Child Actor. Joram Lürsen’s Alfie, The Little Werewolf was also honoured at the fest with the European Children’s Film Award and a Special Mention.
The professional Jury for Feature Film awarded the Chemnitz Top Award for the best children’s film to Allez, Eddy! , with the jury members praising the film for its ‘realism, sensitivity and hope’. Joram Lürsen’s Alfie, The Little Werewolf received a Special Mention from the professional jury. Both director Embrechts and actor Blommaert were present at the award ceremony.
VAF goes for young talent
The Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) approved funding for 15 projects, of which 12 feature films, two feature-length documentaries and one animated short. The list includes a number of debut features supported by experienced production companies such as a.o. Minds Meet, Savage Films and Caviar.
Four projects received script support in this round: Lampedusa, Senne Dehandschutter’s feature debut, is the gripping story of a journalist travelling from Libya to Europe with a group of African refugees. Dehandschutter already received good press for his graduation short, Fertilize. Tack is the new feature project by Erik Lamens (S&M Judge) about the life of Sylvain Tack and his 70s pirate radio station Mi Amigo. Peter Krüger, who recently grabbed the Grand Prize at FIFA in Montreal with his doc Antwerp Central, received support forContinental Drift. Finally, Alex Stockman (Pulsar) can start working on his new feature, Electric Blue.
