EN - The story begins in the basement of a rundown blues bar in Louisiana in the 1980s where a few regulars are drinking. An unknown guitarist gets on stage and introduces himself: he will tell the true story of ‘Blind Boogie Jones’.

NL - Het verhaal begint in de kelder van een oude afgeleefde bluesbar in Louisiana in de jaren 80. In de bar zitten enkele stamgasten te drinken. Een gitarist bestijgt het podium en iedereen geeft commentaar op de nieuwkomer. De gitarist trekt hun aandacht door op de microfoon te tikken. Hij stelt zich voor. Hij zal hen het waargebeurde verhaal vertellen van Blind Boogie Jones, dat enkel de ouderen zich nog herinneren.

FR - La scène commence dans les années 80 en Louisiane, un vieux bar de blues désaffecté situé dans une cave, il y a quelques habitués plongés dans leur boisson. Un guitariste monte sur la scène, chacun fait son petit commentaire sur ce nouvel arrivant. Le guitariste attire l'attention en tapant sur le micro, il se présente. Il va leur raconter l'histoire véridique de Blind Boogie Jones, que seuls les vieux connaissent encore.

Betty’s Blues scores Cartoon d’Or nomination

Betty’s Blues, a co-production with Flanders by Rémi Vandenitte, has been selected as one of the six finalists for the Cartoon d’Or, the pan-European award for best animated short film of the year. Last year, this prestigious award went to Oh Willy... by Marc James Roels and Emma De Swaef. This year’s winner will be announced during Cartoon Forum, the co-production forum for animated TV series.

Betty's BluesEach year, the Cartoon d'Or rewards the best European animation short film among the prize-winning films from the major European festivals. Consequently, those films competing are generally considered to be ‘the best of best’ in Europe. The 2013 Award Ceremony is set to take place on 19 September in Toulouse.

Flemish five win in Brussels

Five Flemish shorts were awarded at the 16th edition of the Brussels Short Film Festival (24 April - 4May). Besides the National and International Competition, the festival added a third section this year, titled ‘Next Generation.’ This competition focused exclusively on (inter)national student short films.

hlIn the Next Generation competition, Lukas Dhondt’s Headlong (pictured on the left) grabbed the Grand Prix, worth €1,500, while Anthony Schatteman’s Kiss Me Softly was awarded the Prix National du Public.

Annecy invites Flemish animators

Robbe Vervaeke’s animated short Norman has been selected for Official Competition at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival (10-15 June). Also competing are television series Picnic With Cake, a Flemish co-production, and several shorts co-produced with Flanders. Pieter Coudyzer’s The Wake is presented out of competition. The Annecy Film Fest is globally considered the number one festival when it comes to animation.

Robbe Vervaeke's NormanCompeting in the Short Film category, Robbe Vervaeke’s animated short is in the running for up to six awards, including the Audience Award, the Special Jury Award and the Annecy Cristal.
