EN - On Shikoku Island, the smallest and least populous of the four main Japanese islands, is an unspecified generic building in the middle of some woods. While the remains of the morning fog hanging over the mountain forests are slowly clearing, a couple of puppies sunbathing outside the building are startled by the sudden arrival of a small truck. A few unidentified men who unload the vehicle seem to be pretty seasoned in handling the various cages of which the load consists. Trapped in the cages are a number of cats and dogs. Some of them are moving around nervously in their tiny compartments; others are quiet and calm. The animals are at the beginning of a process of waiting, in which they either just seem to be killing time or enter the Dream Box. In the woods, trees are swaying in the wind as the sun disappears behind the clouds…

NL - In een mysterieus Japans woud op het eiland Shikoku, het kleinste en dunst bevolkte van de vier grote Japanse eilanden, staat een onopvallend gebouw waar honden en katten naartoe worden gebracht. Waar komen ze vandaan en gaan ze ook weer terug? En wat bevindt zich binnenin de geheimzinnige 'dream box'? Technisch vernuft, hygiëne en mechanisch handelen contrasteert met de viezigheid van zwerfdieren. Dream Box nodigt uit tot nadenken over onderwerpen als dierenethiek, consumentisme, wegwerpmaatschappij en leven en dood.
