EN - Tania is a young Russian woman who lives illegally in Belgium with her 13-year-old son Ivan. Despite being constantly on her guard, she is nonetheless arrested and mother and son are separated with the threat of deportation hanging over them.

FR - Tania est une jeune femme Russe qui vit illégalement en Belgique avec Ivan, son fils de 13 ans. Constamment sur ses gardes, elle redoute les contrôles de police, jusqu’au jour où elle est arrêtée. La mère et son fils sont séparés et Tania est placée dans un centre de détention. Elle va mettre tout en œuvre pour être à nouveau avec son fils, mais n’arrivera pas à éviter la menace de d'expulsion.

Flanders foursome selected for Festroia’s competition

Four Flemish features have been selected for competition at the 29th Festroia International Film Festival in Portugal (7-16 June). Brasserie RomantiqueThe Broken Circle BreakdownOffline and Time of My Life are all in the running to take home some prizes. This year, the festival has also organised a focus on Belgium and pays homage to Flemish actor Jan Decleir.

Madly in LoveBoth Joel Vanhoebrouck’s Brasserie Romantique and Felix van Groeningen’s The Broken Circle Breakdown screen as part of the fest’s official competition. Peter Monsaert’s directorial debut Offline is selected for the competitive First Works section, while Nic Baltazar is competing in the Man and His Environment category with Time of My Life.

Mr. Nobody picks up six Magrittes

Jaco Van Dormael’s epic Mr. Nobody was top of the heap at the inaugural edition of the Magritte du Cinéma, the French-speaking Belgian film awards. The film received awards in six categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Script, Best Photography, Best Editing and Best Original Score.

Mr. NobodyBest Acting awards went to Anne Coesens for her role in Illegal and Jonathan Zaccaï for Elève libre. Christelle Cornil (Elève libre) and Jan Decleir (The Barons) grabbed the Best Supporting acting awards. Best newcomers were Pauline Etienne (Elève libre) and Joffrey Verbruggen (La regatta).
