Marieke, Marieke to Vilnius and Prague

Sophie Schoukens’ debut feature Marieke, Marieke will be competing in the New Europe Competition at the 18th International Film Festival in Prague (Febiofest, 24 March-1 April). In what's turning out to be something of a bumper month for the film, Marieke, Marieke will also be shown in the Horizons programme of the 16th Vilnius International Filmfestival (17-31 March).

Jan Decleir in Marieke, Marieke‘The film combines simplicity with empathy and it belongs to the works by contemporary young Flemish female directors, who, in their films, focus on intimate portraits of the lives of female characters’, say officials on the Febiofest website, going on to compare Schoukens' work to that of other female directors from Flanders such as Caroline Strubbe (Lost Persons Area) and Fien Troch (Someone Else’s HappinessUnspoken).
