EN - R20 Brussels [inner] is a forty-eight minutes long take. Maria Blondeel has filmed this experimental audiography with a driving car, whereby the light waves in the environment are made audible as electronic sound waves. The sky above the travelled road was shot in low-angle, the camera sitting underneath the windshield of the car. The evolving light circumstances on the downtown Brussels ring road are converted into sound during a sonic ride at sunset. This recording was made on November 28th from 6 p.m. until 6.48 p.m. You can hear tones, square waves, produced by six electronic sound generators installed in the car. The sound generators transposed the lights, as measured by photoelectric resistors (sensors), into high and low pitches. The tuning is based on a resonance theory from the early 20-century scientist Nikola Tesla. The sensors were located on the front, the sides, and the rear of the car, separated into left and right. The generators were tuned to 466Hz, 659Hz and 2093Hz at full sunlight (about 100.000 lux).
