EN - Cuban music, song, and dance are the most marked expressions of Caribbean culture. Introducing the Rumba, the Son, the Danzon, the Chachacha, the Bolero, and many other musical features of the Cuban way of life, the documentary sheds light on the richness and originality of this extraordinary culture, ranging from the roots of the Son in the eastern mountains to the morbid beauty of the night-clubs in today's Havana. Written by Jesus Diaz, one of the most famous contemporary Cuban writers, this documentary explores a century of social and cultural developments unique in the world. The project is supported by the Cuban Film Institute, the Cuban Artists' Association, and the national broadcasting corporation, which granted its unlimited access to all archives on the island. The participants include Juan de Marcos Gonzales, Compay Segundo, Ruben Gonzales, Chucho Valdes, and Omara Paruondo.
