End of the seventies. Somewhere in the North of France, Frédéric, a 40-year-old, picks up Marlene, a young hitchhiker. They decide to spend the night at an inn. During the evening meal, they get to know each other. They reveal their states of mind, their personalities. Especially Frédéric, whose thoughts wander from past to present, because of the gestures and the words of Marlene. She belongs to a generation Frédéric isn't part of anymore, and that scares him. At the same time, the joy and innocence of Marlene attract him. A desire shivers through his body, encouraged by the attitude of the young woman. Or is it a delusion ? Frédéric is going through a bad patch because of his marriage with Nicole. He's at a turning-point. His short amorous meeting with Marlene foretells the tragic ending of the story.
