synopsis

On either side of the border between Lithuania and Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave in the European Union, ornithological stations track millions of birds that migrate across the region. Now they are attempting to carry out their first joint research project; will they be birds of a feather, or fighting cocks?
Na het uiteenvallen van de Sovjet-Unie werd de Oblast Kaliningrad een Russische exclave aan de Oostzee, volledig omringd door de Europese Unie. Aan elke kant van de grens met Litouwen bevindt zich een ornithologisch onderzoeksstation. Door het onderscheppen van vogels tijdens hun tocht over de indrukwekkende natuurlijke pracht van de Koerse wal worden migratieroutes in kaart gebracht. Daarbij worden ze geringd en krijgen ze, afhankelijk in welk net ze terechtkomen, de Russische dan wel Litouwse nationaliteit. Zullen de beide stations, die net zoals hun overheden elkaar al jaren wantrouwen, er in slagen om een samenwerking op poten te zetten?
