Building a Legend follows Flemish piano-builder Chris Maene, top pianist Abdel Rahman El Bacha and Henry Z Steinway, the great grandson of the original builder, through their unique endeavour in search of this lost sound from 170 years ago.

synopsis

The dreams of three men are connected by a legendary piano: the Steinweg 1836, the first Steinway Grand piano and the starting point for the most prominent piano-building dynasty in the world. The original piano has since long lost its sound. Today, each of these men is in search of the piano's original sound for their own specific reasons. When one of them takes on the challenge of building a replica of this first Steinway Grand piano, the puzzle starts to fit together for all of them.
Les rêves de trois hommes sont reliés par un piano légendaire : le Steinweg 1836, le premier piano à queue de Steinway et le point de départ de la plus célèbre dynastie de constructeurs de pianos au monde. Le piano original a depuis longtemps perdu son son. Aujourd’hui, chacun de ces hommes essaie de retrouver le son original du piano, chacun pour une raison propre spécifique. Lorsque l’un d’eux se lance le défi de construire une réplique parfaite du premier piano à queue Steinway, leurs chemins se croisent. Building a legend suit le constructeur de piano flamand Chris Maene, le pianiste Abdel Rahman El Bacha et Henry Z. Steinway, l’arrière petit-fils du constructeur original, à travers un unique but de trouver ce son perdu vieux de 170 ans.
