Reading a memoir of growing up in a working-class neighbourhood in France makes Kumail Syed re-examine his own upbringing.

When Kumail Syed read Returning to Reims, he realised that his life was shaped by a very different form of class inequality than anything he had imagined possible until then. The book inspired him to look differently at his childhood neighbourhood, at his relationships with his family and friends, and to pick up a camera to film what he had neither known nor seen.

Le livre l’inspira à porter un autre regard sur son quartier d’enfance, sur ses liens avec sa famille, ses amis, et à prendre la caméra pour filmer ce qu’il n’avait pas su ni vu.
