A young boy goes against his family to reconnect with his convict father.

synopsis

Eleven-year-old Lucien lives a secluded life with his mother Cécile and his older brother in a village in the Ardennes. He is a secretive boy who avoids contact with others and the questions they ask. When his grandmother dies, his father is let out of prison to attend the funeral. It hurts Lucien to see his father grieve, handcuffed and protected from the angry community by the police. Against the advice of his family, and at the risk of losing everything, Lucien decides to see his father again.
Lucien vit retiré avec sa mère Cécile et son frère aîné dans un village de l'Ardenne. Porteur d'un lourd secret, il fuit le contact autant que les questions. Il se rapproche pourtant de Freddy, le père de Lies, sa seule amie, et passe son temps dans la modeste scierie de celui-ci. Mais lorsque la grand-mère de Lucien décède et qu'une sortie pénitentiaire est accordée à son père pour assister aux funérailles, tout bascule. Voir son père éploré, menotté et protégé de la fureur populaire par un impressionnant déploiement policer bouleverse Lucien. Contre l'avis de son entourage, Lucien veut revoir son père. Au risque de tout perdre...
Samen met zijn moeder en broer leidt Lucien een teruggetrokken leven. Hij draagt een vreselijk geheim met zich mee en probeert daarom elk contact te vermijden. De enige die hij wel opzoekt, is Freddy, de vader van Lies, zijn enige vriendin. Lucien is dan ook vaak te vinden in Freddy’s bescheiden zagerij. Maar wanneer zijn oma overlijdt en zijn vader penitentiair verlof krijgt om naar de begrafenis te komen, verandert alles. Als hij zijn huilende en geboeide vader ziet die door politie tegen de volkswoede wordt beschermd, is Lucien helemaal van de kaart. Tegen het advies van zijn omgeving in besluit hij om opnieuw contact met hem te zoeken. Ook al zet hij daarmee alles op het spel…
