Das Haus is a new work expanding on the exploration of sculptural architecture that Aglaia Konrad conducted with the 16mm film series Concrete and Samples.

synopsis

Das Haus is a new work that expands on the exploration of sculptural architecture which Aglaia Konrad conducted with the series of 16mm films, Concrete and Samples. Shot in a house designed by architect Juliaan Lampens in Belgium's Sint-Martens-Latem, the film explores the artist's interest in the possibilities of the cinematic medium to generate -rather than capture - an architectural experience.
Opgenomen in een huis van architect Juliaan Lampens in Sint-Martens-Latem vervat Das Haus Aglaia Konrads fascinatie voor film als medium om een architecturale ervaring op te wekken. Het gegeerde en vaak toegepaste idee van cinema als ‘venster’ en als ‘spiegel’ zit vervat in dit werk. Toch compliceert Das Haus die vergelijkingen door ramen te behandelen als interfaces die binnen en buiten doen vervagen. Hun transparantie materialiseert zich en groeit met behulp van vervormende spiegels uit tot een potentiële toestand. In Das Haus is het scherm niet langer een venster, maar eerder een huid: een tactiele oppervlakte en een membraan dat niet langer veilig of transparant is omdat het een interne filmische compositiestrategie onthult.
