A ship drifts in the middle of an endless sea. Aboard we find a crew of five: three Dutchmen and two Filipino sailors. They all cope with boredom - some by trying to overpower it; others by escaping into a parallel world, guided by dreams. elephantfish lures its viewers into an enclosed environment, guarded by the freedom of the everlasting horizon. The only escape from this confinement comes in thoughts and dreams.
Un navire flotte au milieu d’une mer infinie. A son bord, on y trouve cinq membres d’équipage : trois Néerlandais et deux matelots philippins. Tous luttent contre l’ennui, mais chacun d’une manière différente. elephantfish attire son spectateur à l’intérieur d’un espace isolé, surveillé par la latitude d’un horizon lointain. Dans ce confinement, leurs rêveries sont les seuls échappatoires possibles...
Een schip drijft rond in het midden van een eindeloze zee. Aan boord vinden we vijf bemanningsleden: drie Nederlanders en twee Filipijnse matrozen. Ze kampen allen met verveling – sommigen door het te overstemmen, anderen door eraan te ontsnappen in een parallelle wereld bestuurd door dromen. elephantfish lokt de kijker binnen in een geïsoleerde ruimte, bewaakt door de vrijheid van de verre horizon. De enige ontsnapping aan deze opsluiting vindt men in gedachten en dromen.
