synopsis

Lucas travels with his mother to the South of France to the home of her birth. There he renews his friendship with Caitlin, staying at the convent next door. When their friendship develops into love, Caitlin reveals dark secrets of Lucas' grandfather who betrayed a group of Jewish children during World War II leading to the death for both children and nuns of the convent. At a small town nearby racial tension is mounting against a group of refugees and Lucas finds himself under the spell of Benoit, a smooth talking extremist who draws him into violent action. Lucas's and Caitlin's love is threatened by a tragic event as well as by the dramatic echo of his grandfather's shameful past. Finally only forgiveness will free the new generation to move forward to a greater understanding.
Lucas voyage avec sa mère vers la maison de sa naissance, dans le sud de la France. Là-bas, il renoue d’amitié avec Caitlin, restée dans le couvent d’à côté. Alors que leur amitié se transforme en amour, Caitlin révèle à Lucas les secrets sombres de son grand-père, qui a trahi un groupe d’enfants juifs pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, ayant comme conséquence l’assassinat à la fois des enfants et des religieuses du couvent. Dans une petite ville non loin de là, des tensions raciales s’élèvent contre un groupe de réfugiés et Lucas tombe sous le charme de Benoît, un extrémiste beau parleur qui le mêle à des actions violentes. L’amour entre Lucas et Caitlin est menacé par un événement tragique et par l’écho dévastateur du passé honteux de son grand-père. Finalement, seul le pardon va délivrer la nouvelle génération et permettre d’aller vers une plus grande compréhension.
