Thirteen-year-old Fanta wants to become a star acrobat. Mami Wata, a majestic goddess, decides to help Fanta to find her strength to pursue her dream as the only girl in a circus group in Conakry, Guinea.

synopsis

Fanta, aged 13, is the only girl in a local circus group in Conakry, but she dreams of a future as a star acrobat. When she fails an audition for a professional circus school, her trainer pressures her to focus only on acrobatics, while her family expects her to help at home. When her mother falls ill, Fanta finds herself split between her ambitions and her responsibilities. Luckily there is Mami Wata, a majestic goddess, who empowers Fanta to not give up on her dream. What follows is a magic-realist journey through the colourful world of circus, unfolding the complexity of emancipation for a young girl in Guinea.
