In many Third World countries, the governments have established Free Trade Zones to boost the economy. Cheap labour, preferential tax legislation and free export of profits make these zones attractive for investors. For the host country, employment is the major benefit. In El Salvador, as in many other countries, these Free Trade Zones have a bad reputation when it comes to labour conditions. Horrifying stories of abuse, sometimes resulting in death, circulate on the streets of San Salvador ... Here's the proof.
