A young woman searches for her personal definition of gender, her sexual orientation and the impact on her surroundings.

synopsis

Girlhood wants to break the boundaries of the stereotypical concept of femininity. To that end, the maker returns to her childhood where she starts questioning herself about her short hair, missing bikini top and reckless tree climbing. The result of her personal search is a mosaic portrait of young people, each of which reflects a facet of herself as a young woman.
Girlhood wil de grenzen openbreken van het stereotiepe begrip ‘vrouwelijkheid’. Daarvoor keert de maakster terug naar haar kindertijden begint zich vragen te stellen bij haar korte haren, ontbrekend bikinitopje en roekeloze boomgeklauter. Het resultaat van haar persoonlijke zoektocht is een mozaiekportret van jongeren die elk een facet weerspiegelen van zichzelf als jonge vrouw. Een jonge vrouw op zoek naar haar eigen definitie van Gender, haar geaardheid en de impact op haar omgeving.
