When 39 people get killed before the start of the European Cup Finals at the Brussels Heysel stadium in 1985, the daughter of the mayor of Brussels and a journalist with Italian roots are torn between their professional assignment, family concerns and human nature itself.

synopsis

Inspired by true events, Heysel 85 tells the story of two young women, Jeanne and Martine, who are sucked into a whirlpool of violence, emotions and ethical dilemmas after a stampede in the stands causes the deaths of 39 football supporters and leaves hundreds more injured. When faced with a tragedy like Heysel, what do you do as a human being? What are the limits of your principles at such a moment? Of the 50,000 spectators at the Heysel Stadium, the vast majority stayed to watch the game. Jeanne is torn between emotion and reason.
Marie (30), de burgemeester van Brussel zijn dochter en zijn persvoorlichter, is met haar ouders aanwezig bij de Europese voetbalfinale Juventus-Liverpool. Ook Luca Rossi (31), een journalist uit Limburg met Italiaanse roots, is aanwezig bij de wedstrijd en doet verslag voor de Italiaanse media. Luca's familie is ook in het stadion: zijn vader, zijn tienerbroer Antonio (14) en een oom die speciaal voor de wedstrijd uit Italië was gekomen. Maar die avond slaat de tragedie onverwachts toe: hooliganisme op de tribunes zorgt voor chaos vóór de wedstrijd en de autoriteiten worden overweldigd. Er vallen tientallen doden. Al snel rijst een belangrijke vraag: de wedstrijd afzeggen of doorgaan?
