A video love letter that ponders ‘pictures’ and the distance between north and south.

synopsis

Images sent from Senegal are accompanied by a prose poem dedicated to the body of a loved one, waiting ‘over there' for the right documents in order to travel ‘over here’. A distance, a longing, almost too great to be true. Director Els Opsomer dissects the difference between a body and a picture, between the tangible and the intangible, and between representation and imagination.
_imovie_ [3]_ silver lips / for me maakt gebruik van beelden uit Senegal. De begeleidende woorden vormen een prozagedicht opgedragen aan het lichaam van een geliefde, dat 'daarginds' wacht op de juiste documenten om 'hierheen' te reizen – een afstand, een verlangen, bijna te groot om waar te zijn. Els Opsomer ontleedt het verschil tussen een lichaam en een beeld, tussen het tastbare en het ontastbare, en tussen voorstelling en verbeelding. Het herhaalde geluid van neerstortende golven geeft een soort beschouwende beweging aan de stilstaande beelden.
