Two girls living in a Belgian asylum centre become friends, only to face separation as the bureaucratic machine slowly turns against them.

synopsis

Jahia lives in a Belgian asylum centre, caring for her mother who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Fear of the future slowly isolates her, until she meets Nèta, a lively Moldovan girl whose energy brings colour to her grey world. Their friendship blossoms, and for the first time she feels hope again. But when Nèta’s family receives a deportation order, the shock is too heavy: Nèta falls into resignation syndrome, a rare condition in children caught in asylum procedures. Faced with her friend’s silence, Jahia must decide whether to surrender to despair or summon the courage to resist, challenge the system, and cling to fragile hope.
Jahia vit dans un centre d’asile en Belgique et s’occupe de sa mère, atteinte de stress post-traumatique. La peur de l’avenir l’isole peu à peu, jusqu’au jour où elle rencontre Nèta, une Moldave pleine de vie qui illumine son univers gris. Leur amitié s’épanouit et, pour la première fois, Jahia ose espérer de nouveau. Mais quand la famille de Nèta reçoit un ordre d’expulsion, le choc est trop lourd: Nèta sombre dans le syndrome de résignation, une maladie rare qui touche des enfants coincés dans les procédures d’asile. Face au silence de son amie, Jahia doit choisir: céder au désespoir ou trouver le courage de résister, défier le système et s’accrocher à une fragile lueur d’espoir.
Jahia woont in een Belgisch asielcentrum en zorgt voor haar moeder die lijdt aan posttraumatische stressstoornis. De angst voor de toekomst vervreemdt haar steeds meer, tot ze Nèta ontmoet, een levendig Moldavisch meisje dat kleur brengt in haar grijze wereld. Hun vriendschap bloeit en voor het eerst voelt ze opnieuw hoop. Maar wanneer Nèta’s familie een uitwijzingsbevel krijgt, is de schok te groot: Nèta glijdt weg in het resignatiesyndroom, een zeldzame aandoening bij kinderen in asielprocedures. Geconfronteerd met de stilte van haar vriendin moet Jahia kiezen: zich overgeven aan wanhoop of de moed vinden om te weerstaan, het systeem uit te dagen en zich vast te klampen aan broze hoop.
