A Greek family reunion in Ghent goes off the rails when 80-year-old matriarch Vassilia disappears.

synopsis

Three sisters in their late forties reunite in Ghent, where Agatha lives, to celebrate their mother Vassilia’s 80th birthday. Vassilia lives in Greece with the youngest sister, Yolanda, on whom she is entirely dependent. Barbara, the middle sister, arrives last from Berlin, secretly carrying a book she has written about their family secrets. Tensions rise when Yolanda announces she’s moving abroad with her partner and can no longer care for Vassilia. At Agatha’s party, emotions erupt and past wounds resurface. Then Vassilia suddenly disappears.
Drie zussen in hun late 40 ontmoeten elkaar na jaren in Gent, waar Agatha woont. Ze vieren de 80ste verjaardag van hun moeder Vassilia, die uit Griekenland reist met de jongste dochter, Yolanda. Vassilia is vervreemd van de wereld en afhankelijk van Yolanda’s zorg. Barbara, de middelste, arriveert als laatste vanuit Berlijn en heeft stiekem een boek geschreven over hun familiegeheimen. Wanneer Yolanda aankondigt dat ze met haar vriendin wil verhuizen en Vassilia niet langer kan verzorgen, escaleert de spanning. Tijdens Agatha’s feest barst de bom, oude wonden komen boven... en dan verdwijnt Vassilia plots.
